Nylon is the strongest of all rope, and will last four to five times longer than natural fibers due to its excellent abrasion resistance. It is usually not damaged by oil or most chemicals and, like manila, has good resistance to ultraviolet deterioration from sunlight (also referred to as "UV Stability"). When stretched, manila has an excellent memory for returning to its original length, which makes it best suited for absorbing shock loads like experienced when lifting or towing.

Manila is a hard, natural fiber that is especially resistant to sunlight. It holds knots firmly, stretches very little, and for general use, is the strongest and highest quality natural fiber rope available. It will not melt on contact with heated wires or equipment, unlike synthetic rope, but may burn if exposed to high temperatures or if it comes in direct contact with wires or equipment for an extended period of time. It must be stored dry to avoid mildew, and chemicals will eventually cause it to deteriorate.
